BOTOX - BOTULINUM TOXIN
Botulinum toxin is a highly purified preparation of protein – botulinum toxin type A – produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. Injected in the frown muscle, it blocks the transmission of nerve signals to muscles. Muscles lose their ability to contract and get relaxed. In consequence, lines and wrinkles smooth out. Botox also halts the activity of nerves supplying sweat glands. It prevents sweating.
Botulinum toxin is most often used for correcting vertical lines between the eybrows, horizontal lines on the forehead and the so called crow's feet around the eyes. The preparation becomes effective a few days following the application, and the results persists up to three months. However, the treatment should be performed no more than twice a year. After subsequent applications botulinum toxin effects ought to last longer.
