ELOS TECHNOLOGY
Light energy has been used in medicine since late '80ies. A turbulent development in its accessories has been sparked off by patenting the intense pulsed light technology (IPL) in 1990. By the end of 2000 the efforts were focused on designing ever-better construction solutions. However, attempts at enhancing the treatment's safety and efficiency didn't produce satisfactory results. A major breakthrough was seen when Syneron introduced a brand new ELOS technology (Electro-Optical Synergy), marrying laser and radio frequency (RF) energy. Depending on the wavelength range, light energy is selectively absorbed by chromophores (melanin, hemoglobin, collagen). Light energy is transformed into thermal energy, which heats the target hair, pigmentation, vessel or collagen (selective photothermolysis). As skin impedance is inversely proportional to its temperature, RF current selects tissues at higher temperature (caused by the initial light pulse), and further heats them. The flow of RF current is not related to the amount of melanin in the skin, hence the technology is safe for all skin phototypes. Light energy is delivered in combination with electrical energy and therefore its fluence is lower than that of light applied in isolation, which markedly reduces the incidence of any side effects.
Active skin monitoring ELOS is the only technology utilizing skin temperature monitoring system, which constantly measures the temperature and will automatically shut off the pulse after a safety limit has been exceeded. The skin heating process is fully controlled by the operator. The system ensures an automatic applicator contact check.
PHOTOREJUVENATION
Photorejuvenation is a treatment aimed at rejuvenating the skin with the application of laser and/or non-laser light sources. In use from 2000, the method has been developed by dr. Patrick H. Bittner Jr., MD, an American dermatologist from California. Photorejuvenation improves all signs of photoaging: wrinkles, skin structure, enlarged pores, uneven pigmentation, sagging and telangiectasia. During the treatment intense pulsed light (IPL) penetrates the skin, leaving its surface undamaged. The light energy is selectively absorbed by melanin from hyperpigmentation and hemoglobin in telangiectasia, and then transformed to thermal energy, heating up pigmentation, dilated blood vessels and collagen. At the same time lesions are further heated by the RF current, which augments the heating selectivity. ELOS photorejuvenation technology eliminates vascular and pigmentation lesions as well as encourges collagen production and the reorganization of its fibres. After rejuvenation the skin enjoys a younger and more youthful look, its structure and tightness are enhanced, fine lines are plumped up and smoothed out. All regular activities may be resumed immediately.

SKIN FIRMING
The treatment is chiefly intended for face, neck, décolletage and hands, but may also be administered to the whole body, for example sagging abdominal skin.A unique applicator emits light at an extensively broad spectrum and a high RF current . The skin temperature is raised by light energy and elevated further by electrical energy. The epidermis is cooled to 4°C at the same time. Thus, collagen fibres are efficiently targeted with no adverse effects to the skin. As a result, existing fibres are shortened and new collagen and other connective tissue components are being produced, forming a scaffold for the skin. Elasticity and tightness of the skin increase. The effect is visible instantly, yet connective tissue, stimulated during the treatment, will grow more elastic and firm for the next few months. Due to excellent results it yields, the treatment is called lifting without scalpel. There is no patient down time. Minor reddening may occur, but lasts only a few hours. Make-up can be applied after the treatment.
Skin firming is performed with E-Light device by Syneron. It utilizes a safe and perfectly controllable ELOS technology. It is the only technology to combine light at a spectrum of 470 to 2000 nm with bipolar electrical energy, which is essential for a deep collagen stimulation. The treatment consists in 5 passes, targeted at raising the temperature to 50°C. The parameters are set to achieve optimum results without any side effects. Depending on the skin condition, the therapy involves a series of 4 to 6 treatments, performed at 3 to 4 week intervals.
ANTI-AGING
The treatment is two-phased: 1. Clearing photoaging symptoms: vascular and pigmented lesions (photorejuvenation) 2. Skin firming and smoothing using a special-purpose ST applicator. Energy is delivered along the following lines: mandibular, nasolabial, periorbital, superciliary and supraorbital.
All the above mentioned phases are performed during one treatment. It is recommended to perform a series of 5 treatments, with treatment intervals of 3 to 4 weeks, with a maintenance treatment every 6 months. The procedure is unique, and can only be administered using Syneron devices in ELOS technology.
